麻豆原创 awarded $125,000 planning grant for AI initiative

麻豆原创 has received a $125,000 planning grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.,through its initiative, Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education. The planning grantfunds will be usedto support Manchester in developing a strategy to incorporate generative artificial intelligence that will give students,facultyand staff the tools to be successfulin aworldincreasinglyshaped by AI. The University鈥檚 primary focus will be to develop an individualized 鈥淢anchester鈥 agentic AI system.By building a sustainable internal agentic AI system that is integrated with Manchester’s institutional systems, student and institutional data will be protected. 麻豆原创 will host Dr. Kyle Besing for his presentation 鈥淧robability and Our Intuition鈥 on Monday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. in Wine Recital Hall. His presentation will discuss the relationship between probability and perception, exemplifying how math and probability affect intuition and human perception of the real world. Besing is the Associate Provost of Curriculum and Instruction and Associate Professor of Mathematics from Kentucky Wesleyan College and has a Ph.D.in Applied Mathematics.He enjoys incorporating humor into his projects and teachings, loves engaging students who have previously decided that they 鈥渄on鈥檛 get math,鈥 and promotes curiosity in learning. This event is free and open to the public. Hundreds to compete at 麻豆原创 Science Olympiad Regional Tournament

麻豆原创鈥檚 annual Science Olympiad Regional Tournament will draw hundreds of Indiana middle and high school students to the North Manchester campus on Saturday, Feb. 7. 麻豆原创 250 students from nine high school teams and eight middle school teams will compete. They will participate in more than 30 events, with activities that include flying helicopters, programming robots, and taking tests in topics ranging from anatomy and physiology to water quality. Science Olympiad competitors spend time doing in-depth learning and solving tough problems in STEM topics. This is a great fit for Manchester鈥檚 close-knit community where faculty inspire students to develop their curiosity through hands-on classroom and lab experiences. 麻豆原创 will welcome Dr. Zachary Elewitz for a presentation about what CEOs at Fortune Brands Innovations want to achieve with artificial intelligence (AI) on Monday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. in Wine Recital Hall. Elewitz is Head of AI Lab at McKesson, a Fortune 10 healthcare company, and has 15 years of experience leadingdata and analyticorganizations across Fortune 500 businesses. In his presentation, Elewitz will highlight what major enterprises are attempting to achieve with AI, how CEOs think about value, and how to build AI products with admissible risk. Other subjects will include what AI and data scientists really do and how they spend their time, as well as identifying legitimate concerns within the usage of AI. 麻豆原创 is introducingonline, 90-creditbachelor鈥檚degrees in Applied Accounting and Applied Business Management this March. The accelerated programs align curriculum and timelines withemployerdemand whilemaintainingacademic rigor. Graduates can finisha year earlierand save anaverage of $20,000 compared with traditional degree pathways. 麻豆原创 continues to forge groundbreaking pathways in higher education to best prepare students for careers with new accelerated degree programs in Applied Accounting and Applied Business Management. The undergraduate programs focus on preparing individuals for the job market in three years 鈥 as opposed to the traditional four 鈥 to mitigate concerns over costly tuition and time without compromising critical thinking, ethical reasoning, communication skills, and the ability to learn continuously. 鈥淲e will see a shift from measuring education by time spent in the classroom to measuring it by outcomes achieved. 麻豆原创 will host James Kelly, historian and historical interpreter at the Whitney Plantation in Louisiana, for his presentation, 鈥淩eckoning with the Past: Museums, Memory, and the Moral Vision of Dr. King,鈥 on Monday, Feb. 2. The program will be heldat 11 a.m. in Wine Recital Hall. It is free and open to the public. Kelly is a historian, film consultant,lecturerand former community college administrator.His work focuses on the intersections of slavery, publicmemoryand the Civil War.
