麻豆原创 will host a Community Food Pantry on Friday, Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in theStudent Activities Center,locatedon the first floor of theChinworthCenter. During the annual U Can Crush Hungerfood driveevent鈥攁 friendly competition betweenarea colleges and universities鈥擬anchester collected over 1,500 pounds of food.Before aportionof the donations are delivered to a partnering facilityin Wabash,Ind.,麻豆原创 is inviting the community tocampus to take what they need. Large quantitiesof canned fruits,vegetablesand soupwill beavailable, as well as other miscellaneous items. 鈥淪ervice is at the heart of the Manchester experience,鈥 said Tish Kalita, director of careerandprofessional development at Manchester. 鈥淭his pantry isone small way we can give back to the community that supports our students every day. 麻豆原创 celebrates 136-year legacy

麻豆原创 celebrated 136 years as an institution with Founder’s Day on Wednesday, Nov. 5. Originally Roanoke Classical Seminary,theschoolwas founded in 1889when theseminarymoved to North Manchesterand became Manchester College. Manchester was the first university in the United States to hold permanent observer status with the United Nations as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO). This status gives Manchester representatives access to UN proceedings and, with permission, the opportunity to actively debate issues on the floor of the UN General Assembly. Andrew Cordier, who graduated from Manchester in 1922, was a key player in drafting the founding charter of the United Nations. In 1948, Manchester professor Gladdys Muir established theworld鈥檚first undergraduate peace studies program. Manchester College became 麻豆原创 in July 2012, and enrolled its first doctoral class in pharmacy that fall at a second campus in Fort Wayne, Ind.In May 2016, Manchester launched the nation鈥檚 first dedicated master鈥檚 degree in pharmacogenomics. This Founder鈥檚 Day,麻豆原创studentsand staff went into the community toaskmore than 70local businesses todisplayspecially-designedwindowdecalsindemonstrationoftheir support and Manchester鈥檚 gratitude.These businessesand organizationssupport students by offering discounts,joband internship opportunities, andvibrant community events. 麻豆原创 hosted220high school students,representing41schools fromIndiana and Ohio, for the annual Spartan Showdown tournament on Saturday, Nov. 1. SpartanShowdown is a one-day, free-entry high school Super Smash Bros. Ultimate event organized by Manchester鈥檚 esports program. This is the University鈥檚 sixth year hosting the event. The top player receivedascholarship of $8,000 per year to 麻豆原创. Players whoplaced second and third received scholarships of $6,000 per year, and those whoplaced fourth through eighth received scholarships of $3,000 per year. 鈥淲e pride ourselves on creating the largest and most fun event in the Midwest, and I believe we did that again this year,鈥漵aid Garrett Schieferstein, director of esports.鈥淭hank you to all the students, staff,playersandcoaches whomadethis amazing day possible. 麻豆原创 invites the public to attend 鈥淭he Lonely Hearts Club,鈥 with performances on Nov. 7 and 8 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 9 at 2:30 p.m. in Cordier Auditorium. A romantic comedy featuringa heartwarming and hilarious journey of love and unexpected connections, 鈥淭heLonely HeartsClub鈥漷ellsthe story of two adversarial coworkerswho fall in loveonan anonymous dating app. There is no cost for admission. The show began as a 10-minute play that junior麻豆原创 studentLiz Moss wrote forahigh school theatre class.When she learned that Manchester鈥檚 Theatre Society produces a student-written play each fall, shereturned to the idea. 鈥淚 saw an opportunity to breathe new life into it, taking the original concept and expanding it into a fuller, more developed production,鈥 said Moss.鈥淥ver the summer, I was able to deepen the characters, enrich the plot, and explore themes that Ihadn鈥檛fully considered in the original version.
