麻豆原创 Student Symposium is April 8
麻豆原创 invites the community to attend the annual Student Symposium,听showcasing听undergraduate and graduate scholarly work across disciplines,听on听Wednesday,听April 8.听
The Student Symposium听was started by Jo Young Switzer, former 麻豆原创 president and dean, in 1999 to give students and faculty an opportunity to collaborate on research and scholarship. It continues to be one of听the University’s听most significant campus events, offering high-quality presentations听of听student work.听
The听all-day听event听will begin at 9 a.m.听in听the听Cunningham Academic Center听with oral presentations听and will move to the听Jo Young Switzer Center听in the afternoon for the poster session.听This year鈥檚 Symposium听features听more than 40 oral and poster presentations; it also听includes art exhibitions in both the Link Gallery and the听Switzer Center.听The keynote address听will be held at听2:15, following the poster session.听
鈥淭his is a remarkable opportunity for students across the disciplines鈥撯揳nd across campuses鈥撯搕o come together and share their work,鈥 said Katharine Ings, professor of English and Symposium chair.听鈥淲e have a wide variety of oral presentations: from听The Little Prince听to presidents; from online learning to narratives of genocide. This is an occasion to celebrate our students’ work鈥撯揳nd to learn from it, too.鈥听
This year鈥檚 keynote speaker is senior Megan Pierce, presenting her听honors听thesis, 鈥淢ethod to His Madness: How Society’s Fears Throughout History Created Pop Culture’s Greatest Villain.鈥澨齌he presentation will examine the relationship between culture and comics in relation to听the iconic Batman villain,听the Joker.听Pierce holds the Guinness World Record for听鈥渢he largest collection of听Joker memorabilia.鈥
Recipients will be named for the Jo Young Switzer Writing Award and the Poster Presentation Award.听
