North Harrison senior wins full-ride Honors Scholarship to Manchester

Vicki Moorman, a senior at North Harrison High School in Ramsey, Ind., is this year’s recipient of 鶹ԭ’s Honors Scholarship.

Initiated in 2021, the scholarship covers tuition, fees, on-campus housing and meal plan expenses for up to four years. Only one is awarded per year.

“I chose Manchester because it feels like a home,” Moorman said. “Almost everyone I’ve talked to has praised the strong community at Manchester, and I admire this because I have grown up in a small, tight-knit community and school.”

Moorman’s plan to major in English with a concentration in professional and creative writing stems from a deep passion for literature and art.

“In the future, I hope to use the knowledge I will gain to write books to inspire people,” she said in her application essay. “Writing is an art form I have always loved, and reading provides a lovely escape from the world. I constantly read novels in my spare time, and I have been enamored with books since I was a child. At 鶹ԭ I hope to grow academically and as a person to prepare myself for the rest of my life, which I hope to spend devoted to creativity, art and literature.”

Crafting is one way Moorman expresses her passion and connects with friends and family. “I scrapbook with my mom and paint bookmarks with my friends. My aunt makes cards with me, and my grandma taught me how to sew. Arts and crafts can bring a community of people together.”

She is also considering a minor in business—an interest that runs in the family.

“I have seen how my mom, who has worked for nonprofits all my life, has positively affected people through businesses that empower communities.”

In addition to her academic endeavors, Moorman plans to play soccer for the University. “I love the sport so much, and I enjoyed meeting the team and coaches.”

She intends to begin her Manchester journey in Fall 2024.
